James heard her mumbled something under her breath. She obviously didn't want him to hear it, but it stuck in his mind. If only Daniel did not give me up repeated over and over again in his mind. He suddenly had an awful thought, Was Daniel her previous mate? He thought sadly, but shook his head. No don't be stupid James, He told himself, Stop making assumptions, He thought... but he just couldn't thought out of his mind. His mind whirled, what had he been like? Was he cruel? Did he beat her? Did they have pups? Was he better than James? A million possibilities flowed through his head... He stared of into space for a while, lost in thought. Her next comment pulled him back to earth, she had decided to play along. James gathered up all of his courage, "I would, but he's standing right in front of you.... Fay, you are the most beautiful female I have ever seen. And in the few short hours I have spent with you... I have fallen in love. I know that you probably won't accept it, but i couldn't wait anymore. I would be honored if you would become my mate" He said, standing up, head bowed.

OCC: Is it ok if a few hours have passed and its like twilight now?

Fay frowned as he shook his head. He had heard it, what she had said. She sensed the worry, he thought that Daniel was her past mate. It was almost funny, how he had taken it completely wrong. He was my owner. I loved him, I trusted him... She said, shaking her head sadly. She missed Daniel, but was angry at him for leaving her on a ship to be taken to America.

She expected him to walk away and walk back in all formally, head high and ears up and introduce himself to joke around. But this time, he was serious. Out of no where, unexpectedly, right there and then, he asked her to be his mate. The words Fallen in love stuck in her mind, playing over and over like a broken record, in James' exact voice and tone. She stood there, staring, astonished.

She didn't know how to answer. Say yes, she would lose the chance of keeping the pure blood going and finding the perfect collie who was brave and strong and everything she wanted. Say no...

Break James' heart.

The scales toppled over each other, each one weighing more than the other for only seconds at a time before the other sunk down to the bottom. She went over the reasons again.

Say no. Pure blood, keep the bloodline going, impress parents (wherever they were), impress Daniel. Break James' heart, possibly gain an enemy, sad and crushed face burned in the back of mind.

Say yes. Have cute little hybrid puppies, Stay with James forever, run a successful pack with a brave and strong dog. Lose the chance of having a perfect life.

Perfection didn't always pay off.

The scales evened, the dust settled.

James saw the look of surprise on her face, he could see the wheels in her head turning and the scales weighing out... he sighed as she silently made her decision. What had he done? Would she be so embarrassed that she would just say yes and then not love him? Those tense few seconds were the worst in his life... what should he do if she said no? What would he do then she said yes? That question made him think.... think hard. What if she actually, really did love him, and said yes? He finally looked up at her, ready for whatever she said.

Yes. That was the only thing he heard come from her mouth. And at the moment, he was filled with the most joy he had ever felt. A huge smile grew on his lips, he nuzzled Fay. "Thank you" He said quietly, looking once again into her eyes. His eyes grew serious and concerned for a moment, "Your sure right? I don't want you to just say yes because you think I'll be sad. I just want you to be happy" He said quickly.

Fay smiled. She thought of many things, thinking them over so many times. What if he gets clingy? What if he doesn't love me after this? What if you takes over my pack? She thought in her mind, her eyebrows wrinkling with worry. She felt his nose nuzzle her cheek, and she faked a smile, worry still in her eyes. She looked up, a concerned look on his face. She needed to get out of there before he asked what was wrong. She was a horrible liar, and she thought he would get mad if he knew the truth of what she was thinking. No, James, no! I do love you! She said, telling the actual truth, although it didn't seem possible. The worry still showing, she began to back away slowly. I am sorry, I have to go now, she said, walking away, then running to the other side of the lake. She was horrified of her thoughts, and so she flung herself down behind a tree and hid her face and ears from her mind, the negative and horrid thoughts flooding her ears. She could almost see them, the scary ghosts that were telling her that James wasn't right. She wouldn't believe them. James was... perfect.
